About the photographer

Elembarking on the mystic underwater journey by sheer accident, I am Ace Wu, an underwater photographer from Taiwan currently residing in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
I took up diving in 2012 and in 2013 I began exploring the underwater world with a compact camera. My log comprises about 5,000 dives and many consider my fast approach to diving and underwater photography to be “interesting”, as I found a new way of using colorful macro and blackwater images to express art. For me, underwater photography is a reflection of art.

My photos depict my inner world of thought at the moment I took the picture. As an example: Before my daughter was born, I preferred simple yet powerful imagery. I presented a single subject and the environment in which it lives – simplicity was the predominant style. Now after her birth I hope she can also see the beauty of marine creatures and fall in love with the oceans like I did. My style has evolved and my visual language is now more colorful and opulent. Many viewers told me that one can truly feel the joy and love for the ocean.

No photographer should be limited to the same style throughout his entire career. Be brave and refine your style to transcend the imaginary limitations. As underwater photographers we are often the first to witness the worst of what the human race has done to our oceans: Plastic pollution is a terrible example with garbage found even at depths below 6.000 meters. This is unseen slaughtering of marine creatures. Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to harming our ecosystem. Therefore I like to simplify terms and procedures in my underwater photography workshops even with prestige equipment and high-end manufacturers. By enabling everyone to produce quality pictures I hope to help everybody enjoy the underwater marvels to the fullest and increase awareness of this endangered world. By the means of simplicity and education I would like everyone to share my passion so we all can do better for the sake of our oceans.
