Blancpain teams up with Vellmarí and Manu San Félix to protect the Mediterranean Sea
Supported by Blancpain, Vellmarí and its founder, marine biologist Manu San Félix, successfully launched its first of two marine preservation campaigns in the Mediterranean Sea around Formentera and Ibiza.
The campaign team focuses on the restoration and preservation of the Posidonia oceanica meadows, which are crucial for maintaining the region's marine biodiversity. With a rich history in ocean exploration dating back to the launch of the Fifty Fathoms, the first true diver’s watch, Blancpain continues its commitment through the Blancpain Ocean Commitment (BOC). Vellmarí, established in 1993 on Formentera Island, Spain, works to change how we manage our oceans. With Blancpain's support, Vellmarí conducts impactful campaigns aimed at restoring marine ecosystems and promoting sustainable practices.
One key campaign is The Great Meadow, which focuses on the restoration of Posidonia oceanica meadows in the Mediterranean. These underwater meadows are crucial for marine life, providing spawning grounds, shelter, and food. The project involves planting 10,000 Posidonia oceanica plants to revive damaged areas, showcasing the challenges of restoration and the importance of protecting existing habitats.

Another one of Vellmari’s major initiatives is Reserva30, a campaign to garner support and gain as many signatures for the Declaration for the Mediterranean as possible. This effort seeks to protect 30% of the Spanish Mediterranean by 2030, through sustainable fishing, water purification, and the creation of marine protected areas. By raising public awareness and advocating for real protection measures, Vellmarí and Blancpain aim to create a sustainable future for the Mediterranean Sea.
