Fifty Fathoms Books

Ever since the creation of the first Fifty Fathoms watch, Blancpain has been identified with the sea. To share its passion for diving, exploration and preservation of the world’s oceans, Blancpain has collaborated with leading divers and underwater photographers to produce a collection of stunning books filled with breathtaking images which are now available for purchase.

Edition Fifty Fathoms has been methodically designed to pay tribute to the first modern diving watch, the iconic Fifty Fathoms. Each book consists of 50 double-page spreads, each measuring one fathom around its perimeter when open, hence a total of 50 fathoms. It comprises a selection of 50 underwater photographs. The number 12 also has its own significance in the conception of the publication. It is the magic number in watchmaking, as a watch depicts 12 hours on its dial. In addition, 12 is the number of letters in the name Fifty Fathoms. The collection of Edition Fifty Fathoms books will be complete in 2020, 12 years after its launch.

Edition Fifty Fathoms 2014

Fakarava Edition

While the first set of five Edition Fifty Fathoms started the finest magazine of underwater photography the second set of seven magazines is dedicated to Blancpain’s Ocean Commitment—still incorporating four portfolios of four of the finest underwater photographers. But the extraordinary Ocean Commitment is playing the dominant role in the editorials accompanying the dedicated underwater photography. As nothing describes the leading role of Blancpain in Sport Diving, dive watches and Ocean Commitment better than the one week Blancpain’s President and CEO Marc A. Hayek spent diving with some of the leading personalities of sport diving in Fakarava, this edition is dedicated to Fakarava and Blancpain’s Ocean Commitment—with the exclusive feature of Marc A. Hayek’s underwater-photo portfolio.

Fifty Fathoms - The Dive and Watch History 1953-2013

The histories of Blancpain’s legendary Fifty Fathoms, the world’s first modern diving watch, and diving itself have been intertwined ever since 1953. Blancpain has brought these two stories together in a richly illustrated collectible volume entitled “Fifty Fathoms - The Dive and Watch History”. Blancpain’s editors enlisted experts from both fields to chronicle the twin evolutions and milestones: the stories of revered divers have been assembled by diving expert and photographer Dietmar Fuchs; the sixty years of the iconic Fifty Fathoms timepieces and the Blancpain CEOs whose visions have guided its creation and development has been chronicled by noted watch journalists Jeffrey Kingston and Stephan Ciejka. The result is a comprehensive portrait of pioneers and inventors never before assembled in a single album. "Fifty Fathoms - The Dive and Watch History" in its 475 pages with more than 600 dazzling photographs recounts the stories of 24 of the most important adventurers who pioneered exploration of the world’s oceans – such as Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Hans Hass, Ernest H. Brooks II and Stan Waterman – and follows the achievements of Blancpain’s CEOs, Jean-Jacques Fiechter and Marc A. Hayek.
